A reading app that helps children and parents enjoy the act of reading together.

Tiome is an app that provides interactive fairytales that entertains children and parents at the same time.

  • Once Up On A Time...

You may have wondered, why have fairytales endured for all of these thousands of years, as a tradition passed down from parents to children. Many fairytales speak to a kind of fundamental truth, fundamental concerns that are always relevant to all humans everywhere. This is why when we compare fairy tales from different cultures, they are often very similar in the story they are trying to tell.

In this app, whenever you choose one story, it will give you an option to pick from many other versions, to find the one that you think would best suit you and your child.

For the Kids.

After have interviews with several kids, I was able to observe that many of them instinctually clicked on the illustrations repeatedly, even if they were not interactive. To better respond to their expectations, I revised all of the illustrations be clickable and interactive on my second iteration.

Choose your own magical creature.

At one point, the kid will have an option to create to choose a magical creature. Each one them represents a different version of Cinderella in the world. The would even have chance to create their own magical creature! This will naturally enhance their immersion in the story as they are following a person they have an interest in to go through the story.

For the Parents.

Finally, you have made all your choices and you have finished the story! Here you will have a chance to see a brief introduction of the choices you made and you can also look at the whole story if you want.

This last part is designed for the parents. They can dig deeper into each story and help add a lot of variation to the fairytales they tell their kids, preventing them from becoming repetitive and stale and removing the difficulty in searching for appropriate stories to tell your kids.

Iterations

On the left, is the first design of the home page, you need to jump back and forth to look at the stories.

On the right, is the second iteration, you can see the categories of the story on one side and navigate the stories on the other side. It creates a better over look for the user to choose the story.
